The Swedish army has announced that it is monitoring a Russian submarine that has entered the Baltic Sea, describing the situation as a "routine operation" conducted together with allies. The submarine was detected in Kattegatt, a strait between Denmark and Sweden, and Swedish forces, including fighter jets and warships, are actively following it.

Tensions in the Baltic Sea have significantly increased following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized that Sweden is neither at war nor at peace, mentioning the hybrid threats in the region. Sweden has abandoned its two-century military neutrality by joining NATO in 2024, and officials expect the Russian threat to persist.
