A series of suicide attacks in the city of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in Nigeria, has resulted in the death of at least 23 people and the injury of over 100, according to local authorities. The explosions occurred on Monday evening, following an attack on a military post during the night from Sunday to Monday, suspected to have been carried out by Islamic militants. One of the explosives hit the crowded market in Maiduguri, another targeted the gate of the University Hospital in Maiduguri, and a third occurred near the post office.

The state police confirmed that the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers and announced the deployment of security forces in the affected areas to prevent further threats. Maiduguri has been a focal point of activities by Islamist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, which have caused tens of thousands of deaths and millions of displacements in the region. Although the city has not witnessed major attacks since 2021, signs of the conflict remain visible through frequent checkpoints and military patrols.
