The Murmansk region of Russia declared a state of emergency on Sunday due to widespread power outages. Governor Andrei Cibis announced on Telegram that, despite the efforts made by specialists from Rosseti, the electricity supply has not been restored due to difficult topography and unfavorable weather conditions. Temperatures have varied around minus 12 degrees Celsius, but a drop to minus 24 degrees Celsius is expected in the coming weeks. The power outages were caused by the falling of five high-voltage poles due to strong winds, and authorities have ordered equipment from neighboring regions for repairs. Residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk have been advised to limit the use of electronic devices and to use schools and gymnasiums to charge their phones and keep warm.
