Slovenia has decided not to accept the invitation from American President Donald Trump to join the 'Council for Peace', an initiative aimed at addressing global conflicts, especially the war in Gaza. Prime Minister Robert Golob expressed concern that the mandate of this council is too broad and could undermine the international order based on the United Nations Charter. Although the initiative is considered commendable in its goal of calming the situation in the Middle East, Golob emphasized that it could have negative consequences for international stability.
'Council for Peace' aims to promote stability and ensure lasting peace in conflict-affected regions, but the extensive powers of President Trump within it have sparked controversy. The initiative has already attracted the attention of other countries, such as Canada, France, and Germany, which have received invitations to participate.
