The Slovenian Parliament has approved a constitutional amendment that enshrines the right of citizens to use cash in all banking and legal transactions, in the context of concerns related to the rapid digitalization of payments. The amendment was adopted with 61 votes in favor and no votes against, following a popular campaign on Facebook that gathered over 50,000 signatures.

The initiative was supported by Ivan Jurgec, who emphasized citizens' concerns about the elimination of cash. Although initially the government led by Prime Minister Robert Golob opposed it, the position changed after consulting experts in constitutional law. The amendment ensures that individuals who cannot use advanced technologies, including the elderly, are not excluded from essential financial transactions.
