Simon Harris has been confirmed as the new leader of Ireland's Fine Gael party, paving the way for him to become Ireland's youngest ever prime minister.

Harris, 37, was the only candidate to stand for the party leadership. He replaces Leo Varadkar, who has announced his retirement as party leader and prime minister. Harris said he would "repay their trust with hard work" and emphasized that it was a time of reset and reconnection for the party.
