The prime ministers of Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Sweden, and the president of Lithuania have sent a joint letter to EU leaders, requesting the swift approval of a repair loan for Ukraine, which would be financed from frozen Russian assets in the Union. These assets, valued at approximately 210 billion euros, are mainly held in Belgium. The leaders emphasize that the proposed mechanism is financially feasible and respects Ukraine's right to compensation for damages caused by aggression.
The European Commission intends to use the revenues generated by these assets to guarantee the loan, so that support for Ukraine does not affect European taxpayers. The signatories of the letter insist on the need for a quick decision, believing that this would strengthen Ukraine's position in defense and facilitate a lasting peace. They offer to collaborate constructively with European institutions to achieve this goal.
