The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, rejecting the defense's attempts to downplay the facts. Combs pleaded not guilty and will appeal, while his lawyers acknowledged the abuses but argued that the victims participated willingly. The sentence was considered a recognition of the traumas caused by the artist.
