Wiz Khalifa’s nine-month prison sentence annulled / Case to be retried in Bucharest

American rapper Wiz Khalifa could avoid the nine-month prison sentence after the Bucharest Court of Appeal upheld his motion to annul the ruling on Tuesday, November 3. The court overturned the decision of the Constanța Court of Appeal and canceled the enforcement warrant issued by the Constanța Tribunal.

The case will be retried in Bucharest after the High Court of Cassation and Justice approved its transfer from Constanța. The Bucharest Court of Appeal set November 12 as the date for the retrial of the appeal filed by DIICOT prosecutors. Arrangements are being made for the rapper to participate in the hearing via videoconference.

Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Thomaz Cameron Jibril, was sentenced in December 2025 to nine months in prison for possessing high-risk drugs for personal use. In July 2024, during the “Beach, Please!” festival in Costinești, the artist smoked a cannabis cigarette on stage. Prosecutors claimed that he was carrying 18.53 grams of cannabis and a cannabis cigarette.

Initially, the Constanța Tribunal sentenced him to a criminal fine of 3,600 lei, but prosecutors challenged the decision. The retrial does not constitute a final acquittal.
