A 34-year-old man has been sentenced in Russia for making 11 money transfers, each worth approximately 100 hryvnias (2.2 dollars), to Ukraine, according to the charges.

The man, who had lived in Ukraine for a long time, was detained at the airport in Ekaterinburg while trying to visit his mother, a year ago. Throughout the trial, he was placed in pre-trial detention several times, but was detained again each time he was about to be released.

The court did not consider his health condition, as he suffers from epilepsy and has been under medical treatment since adolescence, as a mitigating factor. Since the beginning of the war in 2022, many Russian citizens have been sentenced to severe penalties for symbolic donations to Ukraine, reflecting a concerning trend in the current context.
