Russia's IL-20M maritime reconnaissance aircraft has prompted the lifting of fighter jets from Germany, Sweden and the NATO air policing mission in the Baltic Sea. The German air force announced that the IL-20M was flying without a flight plan and contact with air traffic control. Russian military planes almost always fly without an identification signal from their transponders, making them invisible to civilian air traffic control.
