This missile was the reason why President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the INF Treaty in 2019, based on claims that its development violates the agreement. The 9M729 missile has a range of 2,500 km and can carry nuclear or conventional warheads. Since its use in Ukraine began, Russia has launched it 23 times, and experts emphasize that its use poses a serious threat to European security.

Analysts believe that Russia's use of the 9M729 missile is an attempt to intensify pressure in peace negotiations.
