Russian leader Vladimir Putin says Russia will step up its production of the hypersonic medium-range Oreșnik medium-range hypersonic missile, a combat-effective system first used against Ukraine in November 2024. These missiles can hit targets in Europe and the western US. Putin has threatened new attacks on Ukraine if it continues to use Western weapons. Although he claims the missiles are impossible to intercept, Western experts dispute these claims. Russia could also deploy the missiles in Belarus by 2025, given its proximity to NATO borders.
