Just a few hours after the unilateral ceasefire proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky came into effect, Russia continued its attacks on Ukraine on May 5. Ukrainian authorities reported one person killed and three injured as a result of the Russian attacks, while Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga stated that Moscow rejects peace.
Russia announced a ceasefire for May 8-9, coinciding with Victory Day parades, but Ukraine proposed an indefinite ceasefire, without receiving a response from Russia. The Russian attacks included drones and missiles, causing destruction in the cities of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. In the context of rising tensions, Zelensky warned that Ukrainian drones could target the parade in Moscow, highlighting Russia's military weakness. EU foreign ministers and American congressmen supported Ukraine's ceasefire proposal, urging Russia to demonstrate seriousness in its desire to end the conflict.
