Russia expressed on Thursday its 'serious concern' regarding the deployment of additional NATO troops in Greenland, following a meeting at the White House between American, Danish, and Greenlandic leaders. The Russian embassy in Brussels condemned the accelerated militarization of the North, accusing NATO of using an imaginary threat from Moscow and Beijing to promote its anti-Russian agenda. Russia has called for the Arctic to remain a territory of peace and cooperation.
American President Donald Trump reiterated the importance of Greenland for U.S. national security, mentioning possible actions to limit the influence of Russia and China. In the coming days, soldiers from several NATO countries will conduct exercises in Greenland, according to Greenland's Deputy Prime Minister, Mute Egede, who also mentioned an increase in air and naval activities in the area.
