NATO reacted after Romania shot down, on Sunday, July 26, the third Russian drone in national airspace, as part of a series of incidents that occurred in the last two days.
NATO officials confirmed that incident verifications are ongoing and that they are in contact with Romanian authorities.
NATO emphasized that it is prepared to respond permanently to any aerial threat to protect the territory of the Alliance.
“NATO is prepared and capable of responding, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to any potential aerial threat, to defend the territory of the Alliance and protect our citizens,” a NATO official also stated.
The drone was shot down at 10:13 AM, in the Sulina - Chilia area, about 12 kilometers northeast of Sulina. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Romania has reported 33 incursions of Russian drones into its airspace, and in 2026, 18 violations were reported, of which three drones were shot down by F-16s.
