Robert Kagan, an expert in foreign policy, analyzes in The Atlantic the impact of the new U.S. security strategy, which signals the end of the period in which the United States guaranteed global security. This change, driven by the Trump administration's "every man for himself" policy, will lead to a multipolar world where wars will become frequent. Kagan emphasizes that former allies, such as Germany and Japan, will rearm, transforming from partners into rivals.

Additionally, the control of Russia and China over their regions will be recognized, and the post-1945 order, based on a compromise between great powers, will disintegrate. Instability in Europe and the resurgence of nationalism will lead to violent competition for resources and territories, and the costs of this transition will be much higher than maintaining the world order. Kagan warns that Americans are not prepared for the challenges of a multipolar world, which will require a major strategic and economic reorientation.
