The citizens of Kosovo are expected at the polls on Sunday for early legislative elections. The third electoral round in just 18 months.

Citizens of Kosovo are preparing to vote on Sunday, for the third time in 18 months, after political parties failed to reach an agreement on electing a new president of the country.

The left-wing party Vetevendosje, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is the favorite in these early legislative elections. The vote is necessary because the previous legislature failed to elect a new head of state, lacking the quorum required by the constitution.

The President of Kosovo is elected by parliament for a five-year term, requiring a two-thirds majority of the 120 members.

The term of the former president, Vjosa Osmani, expired in April, and the lack of political consensus led to the dissolution of Parliament and the calling of a new election.

Approximately 2.1 million voters, including over 130,000 from the diaspora, are registered on the electoral rolls. Analysts warn that the elections may not resolve the political deadlock, as the fragmentation of the political scene makes it difficult to form stable majorities.
