Serbia is holding snap parliamentary elections on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in which the Student List is facing the alliance led by Aleksandar Vučić. The election is considered a major test for the government that has been in power for more than a decade and for the country’s political direction.

The contest comes after nearly two years of protests triggered by the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy on November 1, 2024, a tragedy that left 16 people dead. The student movement called for independent investigations, efforts to combat corruption, and institutional reforms, while the demonstrations culminated in hundreds of thousands of participants in Belgrade.

The Student List, made up of 250 candidates and without a single leader, is promising judicial independence, audits of public contracts, and institutional accountability. The formation has attracted the support of opposition parties and is narrowly ahead in a poll, with 44.5%, compared with 42.7% for Vučić’s bloc.

The election will determine the composition of the 250-seat parliament, with a majority requiring 126 seats. The result could also influence the next presidential election, relations with the European Union, and Serbia’s ties with Russia. Civic organizations, however, report pressure on voters, unequal access to television channels, and doubts about the fairness of the election.
