A small bloc of Republican senators recently voted alongside all Democratic senators to advance a resolution that limits President Donald Trump's powers in using military force in Venezuela without Congressional approval. This move surprised even some Democrats and was seen as a reaction to the increasingly bold actions of the Trump administration in the Venezuela conflict. Among those who voted for the resolution were Republican senators such as Rand Paul, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins, which turned the vote into a real threat to Trump's power.

Senator Paul emphasized that the debate is not about the morality of actions in Venezuela, but about who has the authority to declare war, according to the Constitution. There was also discussion about possible military deployments in other regions, such as Cuba and Greenland, and Paul mentioned that there is no support among Republicans for such action. The resolution will need to go through a process of amendment and obtain 51 votes in the Senate to be adopted, and a similar vote is expected in the House of Representatives. This situation reflects a growing frustration among congressmen regarding the president's expanded powers in the Venezuela conflict.
