Republican senators in the U.S. managed to block a resolution that would have prohibited President Donald Trump from undertaking additional military actions in Venezuela without Congressional authorization. The vote was close, 51 to 50, and Vice President J.D. Vance cast the deciding vote. Opponents of the resolution argued that the U.S. is not currently conducting military operations in Venezuela, despite the capture of President Nicolas Maduro by American forces.
Although Trump pressured his fellow Republicans, three of them voted alongside Democrats to advance the resolution, which sparked an angry reaction from him. The vote highlighted concerns in Congress regarding Trump's foreign policy and underscored that, according to the Constitution, Congress should have the prerogative to send troops to war.
