Qatar warned Iran on Tuesday not to use the Strait of Hormuz as a weapon of blackmail against Gulf countries, during a press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, emphasized that this strait is an international maritime corridor that must be protected.
Fidan added that preventing the use of the strait as a weapon is essential for regional security and the global economy. Qatar and Turkey support diplomatic mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran, aiming to establish a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Thani recently discussed in Washington the impact of the war on the region and called for support for the peace initiative. Although both parties want the conflict to end, they remain in disagreement over the details of a potential agreement. Recent tensions have led to rising oil prices and concerns about maritime security in the Gulf.
