Prince Harry said in an interview with GQ magazine that he hopes to reconcile with his father, King Charles III, and other members of the British royal family. The Duke of Sussex said reconciliation is important amid family tensions and the challenges facing the world.
Harry, 42, became estranged from the royal family after he and Meghan stepped down from their official duties and moved to California in 2020. His relationship with his brother, Prince William, heir to the throne, has remained strained, while Harry’s children only met King Charles recently.
“I hope we can all leave the past behind,” the prince said, stressing that wounds caused by conflicts can remain, but do not justify perpetuating disputes. He said he wants to repair relationships and encourage other families to do the same.
Harry’s spokesperson clarified that the comments do not directly refer to Prince William or other members of the royal family. In the interview, Harry also spoke about the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, mental health, returning to the United Kingdom and his wish for the British press to move on from past conflicts.
