A 56-year-old teacher from the town of Muntenii de Jos, Vaslui County, attended classes on Wednesday carrying a pocketknife. Police were notified, and the object was found in the man’s bag and seized for examination.
According to the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate, officers went to the scene after receiving the report and searched the bag. Inside, they found a cutting and piercing object. A criminal case was opened against the teacher for unlawfully carrying or using dangerous objects. The investigation will establish the circumstances in which he came to have the pocketknife with him during school hours.
The incident comes amid a series of acts of violence in educational institutions. The previous day, a 12-year-old student from Bistrița stabbed a female teacher and a classmate, while later a student from Pitești attacked another student with a machete.
The government has announced tighter security measures in schools, including increased security, more school counselors, revised security plans and legislative changes concerning prohibited objects. Searches of schoolbags and the installation of metal detectors are also being considered. Police recommend promptly reporting any situation that could endanger the safety of students and teaching staff.
