In a special message addressed to the thousands of people gathered in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo lamented that society is becoming increasingly accustomed to violence, urging those who bear arms to lay them down and those who have the power to start wars to choose peace. The message, known as the 'Urbi et Orbi' blessing, was unusually short and direct, without mentioning specific conflicts. The Pope emphasized that the story of Easter, in which Jesus rose without opposing his execution, illustrates the principle of nonviolence. He urged the faithful to renounce the desire for conflict and to seek peace for a world affected by wars. In his speech, the Pope conveyed Easter greetings in ten languages, including Latin and Arabic, and announced a prayer vigil for peace on April 11. His recent criticisms of violence in the world, particularly the war in Iran, were highlighted in this message.
