Polish police arrested 76 people and recorded 231 incidents as part of an investigation launched after three knife attacks committed in schools, which left one person dead and 11 injured. The checks were carried out nationwide after Prime Minister Donald Tusk decided to increase inspections in educational institutions.
Approximately 50,000 schools in Poland were inspected, according to an announcement published Saturday by the Polish police on the X platform. In cases where there were reasonable suspicions that criminal acts had been committed, police officers took action, and 76 people were detained.
The first attack took place on Thursday, at a school in Leszczydol-Nowiny, a locality located approximately 70 kilometers northeast of Warsaw. A 37-year-old caretaker was killed, and two other people were injured. The suspect is a 15-year-old teenager.
The day before, a 19-year-old man attacked people with a knife at a vocational school in Ostroleka. Nine people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition.
Numerous schools in the Mazovia region were closed on Friday. Police also checked social media to identify any potential provocations that might encourage similar attacks, but no such indications have been found so far.
