Seven people were injured on Wednesday in a knife attack carried out at a school in the city of Ostroleka, Poland. Police announced that the suspect, a 19-year-old student at the institution, had been detained and that the situation had been brought under control.
The city’s mayor, Pawel Niewiadomski, confirmed the attack and said that several people had been injured. The authorities’ intervention ended without the suspect continuing to pose a danger to those inside the school.
According to the RMF FM radio station, two of the victims suffered serious injuries. Most of those injured are students, but a teacher is also among the victims.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the attack, including the reason why the young man resorted to violence. The authorities are expected to provide further information about the victims’ condition and the measures ordered in the case of the suspect.
