Warsaw has announced that it will not reopen any border crossing points with Belarus, Russia's ally, until at least mid-November, to show solidarity with Lithuania. It recently closed its land border with Belarus due to air disturbances caused by smuggling balloons. Poland had previously closed the border due to Russian military exercises in Belarus but reopened some points for vehicles.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that, although there are intentions to reopen, coordination with Lithuania has led to their postponement. The Polish interior minister confirmed that the opening of the borders is delayed to demonstrate solidarity. Relations between Poland and Belarus are tense, especially after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Latvia has stated that it is prepared to close its only crossing point with Belarus if necessary.
