Lithuania is preparing an evacuation plan to Poland in the event of a military threat

Lithuania has updated its population evacuation plan in the event of a military threat or serious crisis, and one of the routes designated for residents of the capital Vilnius leads to Poland. The information was reported by Polskie Radio, which notes that authorities in the Podlaskie Voivodeship are preparing the region to become a transit corridor and, potentially, a reception area for evacuees from the Baltic states.

The order and routes of the evacuation will depend on the scale and location of the threat. According to the plan, the operation should begin before the danger becomes imminent. The other evacuation directions from Vilnius are northern and western Lithuania.

Authorities stress that during bombardments or an immediate threat, residents should seek shelter rather than attempt to leave the city. The plan is intended to prepare for an organized and controlled evacuation.

The measures are linked to the war in Ukraine and fears of a possible escalation. Polish and Lithuanian officials have previously warned of potential Russian provocations, including attacks on infrastructure or “false flag” operations. U.S. intelligence services have also assessed that Moscow could test NATO’s resolve through a limited attack on one of the Baltic states.
