Poland investigates a suspicious fire at a Starlink communications station. Minister Gawkowski warns of a possible hybrid attack.

Polish authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a communications station after the Minister for Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, said the incident could represent a deliberate act of sabotage. The fire damaged the power plant and generator, and the station lost its internet connection, disrupting access for several institutions, including the Ukrainian army.

Gawkowski said operations had been restored, but the incident must be analyzed in the context of hybrid warfare risks. According to the official, there is currently no evidence that Russia was behind the fire, but several indications suggest that the modus operandi is consistent with the new attack doctrine attributed to Moscow.

In Poland, the alert level concerning acts of sabotage has been elevated since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Warsaw has since warned of possible operations aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure and essential services. Russia has consistently denied accusations of involvement in such actions.
