Lithuania has charged two suspects with terrorism-related offenses in connection with an attempted arson attack on a Starlink terminal that took place on October 18. The prosecutor general in Vilnius announced Thursday that the investigation concerns a possible act of sabotage linked to Russia and aimed at Ukraine’s military capabilities.
The two suspects live in Germany and were detained there following a request from Bulgaria in a separate investigation into the arson of Starlink equipment. One of them holds Turkish and German citizenship, while the other is a German citizen of Serbian origin, according to German investigators.
Lithuanian authorities are trying to establish the suspects’ roles and the links between the two cases. Moscow has rejected similar allegations previously made by other European countries.
The Starlink network, operated by SpaceX, provides high-speed internet in remote areas and is considered important to Ukraine’s defense. The terminals are used by Kyiv in the war against Russia. SpaceX owner Elon Musk has repeatedly criticized Ukraine’s leadership, but has allowed the service to be used in Ukraine.
