Poland has implemented border controls with Germany and Lithuania in response to illegal migration, believed to be influenced by Russia and Belarus.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced the introduction of border controls in response to German pressure to accept rejected migrants. The Polish authorities believe illegal migration is being fuelled by a Russian-Belarusian campaign to destabilize the European Union. By the end of June, the number of detained migrants had risen significantly and Poland had sent an extra 800 border police to implement the measures. The checks are initially planned for 30 days, but will continue unless Germany lifts its restrictions.
