The President of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok, announced that he will officially nominate Péter Magyar as the Prime Minister of the country, following a meeting with the leader of the Tisza party, which won the general elections on Sunday. Magyar will replace Viktor Orbán, who has led the country for 16 years.
Sulyok announced on Facebook that he will make this nomination during the next session of Parliament, according to his constitutional duties. The president is expected to soon announce the date of the first session of the new Parliament, which must be convened within 30 days of the elections.
Magyar, at the age of 45, expressed his desire to take office by May 5. Given that the Tisza party holds 138 of the 199 seats in Parliament, it is estimated that Magyar will not have difficulties in obtaining approval for his government program.
