Peter Magyar, newly appointed as Prime Minister of Hungary, caused a political shock with his resignation request addressed to President Tamas Sulyok during his first official speech, held immediately after the inauguration ceremony. He imposed a strict deadline, demanding that Sulyok resign "today, but no later than May 31."

His speech was a direct attack on the president, accusing him of moral and professional complicity during Viktor Orban's government and of failing to protect the rule of law. Peter Magyar emphasized that it is time for Sulyok to leave "with his head held high as long as he still can."

His election as Prime Minister marks a historic change in Hungary, ending 16 years of Fidesz-KDNP governance.
