The Kremlin hopes that U.S. President Donald Trump will continue his efforts to end the war in Ukraine after the midterm congressional elections, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said. The statement was made after Tuesday’s vote in the United States.
“President Trump is continuing his term. We sincerely hope that he will continue his efforts to maintain peace. There are developments,” Peskov said, quoted by the Russian news agency TASS.
The Kremlin spokesman announced that the next round of trilateral talks is expected to take place “very soon.” Peskov also stated that Melania Trump’s peace efforts had been successful and expressed hope that they would continue.
Asked whether efforts to end the war could be affected by the United States Congress, Peskov replied that this is “America’s internal problem.”
The Kremlin provided no details about the negotiations’ timetable or any concrete progress in talks concerning the conflict in Ukraine.
