Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov questioned the existence and scope of the energy ceasefire announced by Donald Trump between Russia and Ukraine, after Russia acknowledged attacks on Ukrainian power plants. The statements were made on Wednesday during the Kremlin’s daily press conference.
Asked whether the strikes on energy infrastructure meant that the agreement was not accepted by Moscow, Peskov responded with a series of questions: “What was announced? What is the scope of the energy ceasefire and what does it mean?”. After the journalist pointed out that these aspects had not been clarified, the Russian official stated that “work in this direction is continuing”.
U.S. President Donald Trump had announced on October 9, on the Truth Social platform, that the energy ceasefire had taken effect immediately and that both sides had agreed not to violate it. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of continuing attacks on energy infrastructure. Subsequently, the Russian Defense Ministry published a list of targets struck overnight, including power plants.
Trump had previously called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries. His message was delivered one day after the announcement of a Russian-American agreement concerning the purchase of significant quantities of Russian diesel fuel, estimated at three million tons. Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the deal, arguing that it would help Russia rebuild its liquidity and finance its war.
