Context: Democrats Gain Control of Both Chambers of Congress
Democrats managed on Tuesday, in the midterm elections, to gain control of both chambers of Congress, according to projections in the US. According to estimates, Democrats are expected to win a majority in the House of Representatives as well (225 seats), while Republicans have 136.
After the results were announced, Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson acknowledged that the party had gone through “a tough night,” said he was “disappointed,” and promised that Republicans would regain control of the House in 2028.
