Authorities in Pakistan warn that heavy rainfall will continue this week, in conditions where over 100 localities are already flooded.

The death toll from the monsoon rains has reached 107, with 344 people injured and hundreds of homes damaged. The most deaths have been recorded in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, while in Punjab, authorities have opened 17 reception centers for evacuated individuals. The situation is alarming, with vast areas of Punjab covered by water, and officials describe the scale of the flooding as being similar to an inland sea.

The Meteorological Service forecasts new rains starting Wednesday, and the risk of flooding remains high.

Pakistan, vulnerable to the monsoon season, is facing the effects of uncontrolled urban development, which amplifies the impact of extreme weather phenomena.

Last year, monsoon rains caused over a thousand deaths and severely affected agriculture.

Authorities emphasize that the current season is only halfway through, and the risks persist.
