At least one dead and four injured following a shooting at a high school in the southern Philippines

At least one person died and four others were injured Friday in a shooting at a high school in the city of Banga, South Cotabato province, Philippine authorities announced. Police confirmed the incident, but provincial governor Reynaldo Tamayo did not provide details about the attacker or the victims.

The Department of Education expressed deep concern. The attack comes after two other incidents at schools in the south of the country since June. In a recent case, a student livestreamed the fatal shooting of a classmate and then took his own life. In June, three students were killed and approximately 20 injured at a school in Tacloban. Strict gun laws have not prevented illegal weapons from circulating.
