The criminal court in Paris has begun examining Nicolas Sarkozy's request to combine the sentences received following separate convictions for corruption and illegal financing of the electoral campaign. Sarkozy, who was president from 2007 to 2012, has faced multiple legal issues since the end of his term, including two final convictions. His lawyer, Vincent Desry, explained that the request to merge the sentences is a common practice. Sarkozy was convicted in the 'Bismuth' case for attempting to obtain favors from a judge and wore an electronic bracelet as part of his sentence.

He was also convicted in the 'Bygmalion' case for the illegal financing of his 2012 campaign. During the hearing, he will request that the six-month sentence from the Bygmalion case be considered served due to the electronic bracelet. The court's decision can be appealed, and Sarkozy will return before the judges on March 16 for another appeal related to the Libyan financing of his campaign.
