Bogdan Peșchir, the financier of Călin Georgescu’s campaign, has been indicted and will stand trial at liberty for continued voter corruption in a case handled by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice. The indictment was submitted to the Brașov Court, which will hear the case in the first instance.
According to prosecutors, between October 13 and November 27, 2024, the defendant allegedly offered benefits totaling $290,225.90 to induce voters to vote for a particular candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The accusation concerns 874 material acts.
The amount was allegedly offered through 868 virtual gifts sent on TikTok to 105 users, worth $251,065.11, as well as through six cryptocurrency transfers to two people, worth $39,160.31.
Investigators claim that the mechanism allegedly included recruiting influencers, rewarding voters during LIVE sessions, and direct transfers of money to people who allegedly agreed to influence other voters. Each influencer allegedly received 390 lei for 20,000 users.
The investigation was conducted together with IGPR officers. Peschir is presumed innocent until a final judgment is handed down.
