The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, denounced on Monday the "moral failure" of the European Union, following its decision to impose sanctions on extremist Israeli settlers responsible for violence in the occupied West Bank.

Netanyahu stated that, while Israel and the United States are fighting against terrorism, the EU is making a false parallel between Israeli citizens and Hamas terrorists. The sanctions imposed by the EU also target Hamas officials, according to a recent political agreement.

Foreign ministers from EU member states agreed on the sanctions, which include freezing assets and travel bans for those involved in the expansion of Israeli settlements. These measures were initially blocked by Hungary, but a new agreement became possible after the change of government.
