Director Yuval Abraham announces the free online streaming of the documentary NAZA, awarded at Venice and challenged by Israeli authorities

The documentary “NAZA,” which includes testimony from Israeli military personnel about the alleged killing of civilians in Gaza, will be available to watch online for free in November, one of its filmmakers, Yuval Abraham, announced Thursday. The film will be available after Israel’s legislative elections, scheduled for October 27, although the exact release date was not specified.

The production, made by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, received the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in September. The documentary features the anonymous testimony of 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence service members, who describe how, according to them, numerous civilians were allegedly killed in attacks on Hamas members.

Abraham said the film was made to prompt a public debate about the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza and rejected accusations of treason leveled against the filmmakers.

The documentary triggered strong reactions in Israel. Culture Minister Miki Zohar called for consideration of revoking the filmmakers’ citizenship and for the anonymous sources to be examined. The Israeli military categorically rejects the allegations and questions the credibility of the testimonies, saying it is making efforts to protect civilians.
