Israelis are commemorating on Wednesday, October 7, three years since the Hamas attack in southern Israel, through ceremonies held across the country. The events began at 06:29, the symbolic moment when the attack was launched, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 people being taken hostage and transported to the Gaza Strip.
Victims’ families and survivors gathered at Kibbutz Re’im, where the Nova music festival took place. Participants observed a moment of silence, surrounded by photographs of those killed and flowers laid in their memory. According to The Times of Israel, 378 people were killed at the festival, while another 44 were taken hostage.
The commemorations continue throughout the day. A nationwide minute of silence is scheduled for 12:00, while at 18:29 another ceremony will take place at the site of the Nova festival. The main event organized by survivors and victims’ families is scheduled for 21:15 at Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv.
The official ceremonies of the Israeli state took place on Monday, in accordance with the date established in the Hebrew calendar. The attack of October 7, 2023, triggered the war between Israel and Hamas.
According to health authorities in Gaza, approximately 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict, while more than 175,000 have been injured.
