NATO diplomats are concerned that American President Donald Trump will announce the additional withdrawal of American troops from Europe, after the Pentagon confirmed the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 soldiers from Germany.
Anonymous sources told Bloomberg that there is a possibility that Italy may also be targeted for new withdrawals. Trump mentioned in an interview that the U.S. is considering withdrawal from Italian bases, highlighting his dissatisfaction with Italy's support.
This situation reflects the tensions between Trump and certain NATO allies, such as Germany and Spain, which he considers insufficiently involved in supporting the U.S.
Major General (Ret.) Gordon Davis warned that a significant reduction in forces could also affect the U.S.
Trump has urged allies to increase their defense spending, and currently, approximately 85,000 American soldiers are stationed in Europe.
