The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has informed the leaders of the European Parliament's parliamentary groups about the tabling of a motion of censure against the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen. It was proposed by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea, who accuses the Commission of abuses in its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The motion needs at least 72 signatures to be debated and if it passes, the commission will have to resign. However, such a situation is considered unlikely, needing a double majority in the EP.
