In an intervention in the plenary session of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen stated that Europe must have stricter control over the technologies that will shape its future, in order to prevent the sabotage of economic security by other countries. She highlighted the importance of developing clean technologies, mentioning that the EU is a global leader in this field, but faces risks from China, which dominates the solar technology market. Von der Leyen emphasized the need for more reliable raw material suppliers and proposed measures such as introducing a "Made in Europe" criterion for strategic sectors, ensuring that foreign investments are in the interest of the EU, and supporting battery production. She also called for a reduction in energy bills, mentioning that taxes represent a significant burden for the industry.
