Meta has announced that starting in April 2026, Messenger.com will no longer be available, forcing users to access the messaging service through Facebook or the mobile app. This change particularly affects users who have deactivated their Facebook account but continued to use Messenger on the web, thus eliminating the separation between the two platforms.
The conversation history will remain accessible through a backup PIN, which can be reset if lost. Messenger was considered an independent product, but priorities changed after the acquisition of WhatsApp in 2014. The closure of the site is part of a process to simplify Meta's services, and the first signs have already been observed through the discontinuation of the Windows app and redirects to facebook.com/messages. The change was initially reported by researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, and Meta has begun to officially notify users.
