Giorgia Meloni said that security guarantees for Ukraine, negotiated by the US and European partners, will be modeled on NATO's Article 5, which provides for mutual defense. During a meeting at the White House, Meloni stressed the need to prevent a recurrence of the current conflict, saying that unity between Washington and Europe was essential for peace. It was also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the idea of security guarantees for Ukraine, without NATO membership.
