Tens of thousands of people protested on Monday in Sofia against the Bulgarian government, marking the intensification of an anti-corruption movement in the poorest country of the European Union, a movement that particularly targets the budget project for the year 2026.

Protests are taking place in 13 cities across the country, including Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad, Stara Zagora, and Varna. Bulgarians are thus positioning themselves against the current government, giving Bulgarian President Rumen Radev the opportunity to call for early elections, as the head of state is in conflict with Parliament.
